Project Runway Grand Finale and Winner, Irina Shabayeva, Dark and Chic

Irina Shabayeva is Project Runway Season 6 winner! All three collections were simply exquisite! Irina's line was the most cohesive collection. I can imagine how difficult it is for designers to put together a collection, hoping to please the judges and gain industry respect, Irina didn't play it safe, she took huge chances that could have easily back-fired. While some viewers didn't care for her pesonality or saw her as a "mean girl," Irina rocked the finale. I didn't watch other weeks leading up to this fashion showing, the cattiness of reality TV kinda works my nerves, but hands down Irina had the best collection. We'll just have to see what season 7 holds for Project Runway!

Rihanna's Russian Roulette Music Video...Astounding!

This is a great music video, so compelling! Nowadays most music videos don't really convey the song, they're used to just sell the artist and not the music, the music is often crap anyway. But, this video indeed tells a story of the dangers of toxic relationships for both parties. The setting, the imagery is very artistic. I think Rihanna did a great job in expressing what she was feeling through this video and serves as an excellent cautionary tale!

Beyonce, Rihanna, Ciara...Too Much Sex, Not Enough Clothes in Music Videos

Now that Rihanna has spoken and she has realized and felt the impact of her actions with young girls in terms of domestic violence, will she and other music divas pull back on the over-sexed music videos and photos. The material is becoming too sexually explicit, closer to soft porn than music videos. The music is second or fourth to creating a highly sexually image to excite fans. It's interesting that Country Music stars, even most Pop female stars don't have to take this road, I wonder why? Here's a post from a blog I found interesting!

SPEAK, PLEASE!!!

We need a moratorium on these over-sexed images presented to our young girls, Rihanna, Beyonce, Ciara, even Maxwell’s video “Bad Habits” is too much for young people!

I’ve been saying this and wonder why Oprah, Rev. Jackson, Essence Magazine, etc. hasn’t called out artists on the damage this is having on the black community, the way they have rappers and the N word or disparaging lyrics toward black women!

The staggering number of STDS including HIV is scary!

Herpes is soooooooo prevalent among teens!

Young girls now go into the adult entertainment business like going on a tempt job as a secretary with some part-time pimp/call ho service.

People have to raise their own children, but many of today’s parents are unequipped and think nothing of what they expose their kids to, but expect them flourish.

I thought about this as Rihanna stated how she’s now aware of the impact on young girls and I hope to see less of her body! I’m so tire of seeing crotches, bodysuits, corsets dressed in high heels…The Serena cover or plain nudity isn’t bad. It’s the partially clad images/soft porn. The human body is beautiful and those are more artsy than corsets and fishnet pantyhose, plunging necklines, the erotica.

we do need to stand for something…because we’re falling and hard!

Teen Pregnancies
STDS
Children being abused, the vicious cycle!
High School Dropouts
Gang Activity (girls and boys)

I will write to Oprah and others, thanks for prompting me to action, it’s time!

I protect my six year old, closely monitor what she watches on tv, we do prayers and affirmations, I don’t always attend church (I believe in spirituality over religion), but she does and can make her own religious choice when she gets older. We create art all the time to allow her imagination to grow. We don’t depend on the public schools to do everything. I’m fortunate to have the presence of mind to guide her and a good Mother that raised me! This is not the case for many of our kids and teens!

I hope we can help artists to still sell music and concerts without all the x-rated images, take the pressure off of them from record companies to top their last sales or go platinum if they’re a gold artists. Many want to be a sex symbol, Mariah Carey stated how she wanted to be like Marilyn Monroe, I’m sure it’s very gratifying, flattering and empowering to be so desirable, personally, I wouldn’t know, but it’s just about pornography!

This is a very good topic and quite timely too!

Rihanna Breaks Silence, Great Interview With Diane Sawyer

Rihanna finally has broken her silence about the February 20, 2009 night, when she and ex-boyfriend Chris Brown argued and an altercation ensued. It was after a Pre-Grammy party that Rihanna was left beaten and bloody by Chris Brown. She shared with Diane Sawyer on ABC's 20/20 what happened that night and how she felt, why she went back with him and why she subsequently ended her two-year relationship with Brown. There're many opposing views about Rihanna and the assault, in which Brown pleaded guilty and received five years probation and 180 hours of community service, along with a restraining order that prohibits him from coming within 100 feet of Rihanna and 10 feet at industry events.

Many blame Rihanna and can't believe he beat her without her hitting or beating him first. Some women feel and some men too, that this is all a publicity stunt because Rihanna is coming out with new music on November 23rd and she just threw him under the bus.

I commend Rihanna for being quite candid while realizing her responsibility as role model, a part of being a celebrity, to the young girls that follow and look up to her and Chris Brown. Take away their money and fame and they're just like millions of others young couples experiencing dating violence! There was no way to sugar coat what happened that awful night. Chris Brown's devoted fans may be angry with Rihanna now, but he's already coming out of this and rebuilding his life, so the resentment toward Rihanna will subside. Both have to move on and have spoken and we spectators are free to have our opinions, but it's a done deal for me!

I've expressed my views on various blogs, in disbelief of women defending Chris Brown's actions and making Rihanna guilty of provoking the incident. Violence against women is far too much of a problem and concern for me to be silent. As Rihanna stated, some people are truly ignorant to the aspects of abuse and we all were ignorant to exactly what happened the night of the assault.

I believe all people deserve second chances and this includes Chris Brown! He's also a victim of domestic violence, growing up in a home with an abuser. Please parents take a look at this situation and realize the damage you're causing your kids when you allow them to exist in a home of domestic violence, get help, get out! It's very selfish to stay, very damaging to continue, very liberating and healthy to leave!

It's about "self-worth" and finding one's value! We have to set boundaries and when they're violated, it's time to exit! This is a teachable moment for our teens and adults alike who think it's OK, or normal to be hit, shaken, pushed or slapped. Always remember "you're worthy simply because you were born!" Someone will love you without him or her, the loneliness will pass, God will take care of you and your kids, give you strength day by day, the sun will indeed shine again if you're cloudy and going through a challenging period of circumstances. Life is about reinventing yourself time and time again as a constant work-in-progress! You're worthy of having good people in your life, worthy of being loved without abuse, worthy of good fortune and good times!

I wish Rihanna and Chris Brown the absolute best and will be supporting both artists, buying their music and remembering to keep them in my prayers!

New Music Joss Stone, Mariah, Carrie Underwood, Melanie Fioni...

Well, the heat is on in this last quarter of 2009. With a weakened economy, an environment of uncertainty and down sales for the record industry, today's artists must be quite strategic to pull off runaway 1st week sales. They're so many very good albums not getting the sales and promotion, unfortunately! LeToya Luckett has one of the best records for 2009 and will have to relaunch Lady Love or bring plenty of videos, especially, "I Need A U!" Mariah Carey delivered some of her best work on her latest offering, Memoirs of An Imperfect Angel along with a great supporting role in the much talked about "Precious." Joss Stone is great with Colour Me Free, fun, intimate and upbeat!

Ledisi never disappoints with her stellar vocals, check out Turn Me Loose! Canadian newcomer Melanie Fiona is exquisite with true and soulful R&B fusion with The Bridge. Mario takes us on an interesting listening and club-bangin' journey with D.N.A., Lady Gaga is a fan favorite and a hot commodity, love her music, vocals and songwriting skills with an enhanced Fame Monster. Rihanna is back with Rate R and I'm sure some number one hits after a stormy 2009. Chris Brown, fresh off of community service is dropping soon and looking good in promotional pics with new album Graffiti, Alicia Keys is working hard, slaying with Jay-z on his Blueprint 3, "Empire State of Mind," and releases The Element of Freedom after a tough PR year due to her romance with producer Swizz Beatz. I believe her music will be a case of "mind over matter!" Carrie Underwood proves she's isn't going anywhere anytime soon, this former American Idol Winner keeps cementing her place in a fickle industry. Beyond her beauty, pristine vocals and songs with meaning, Carrie has the ability to bring together country and pop in a seamless manner!
